Questi risultati sono contenuti in articoli scritti in collaborazione con H. Ruddat, S. Scherotzke, D. Treumann e E. Zaslow. Matematica) On the Nullstellensätze for Stein spaces and C-analytic sets Jose Fernando (Universidad Computense, Madrid) Abstract: In this seminar we present the real Nullstellensatz for the ring O(X) of analytic functions on a C-analytic set X in R^n, in terms of the saturation of Lojasiewicz's radical in O(X): the ideal I(Z(a)) of all functions vanishing on the zero-set Z(a) of an ideal a of O(X) coincides with the saturation of Lojasiewicz's radical of a. If Z(a} has `good properties' concerning Hilbert's 17th Problem, then I(Z(a} is the closure of the real radical of a. The same holds if we replace the real radical with the real-analytic radical, which is a natural generalization of the real radical ideal in the C-analytic setting. (joint with Francesca Acquistapace and Fabrizio Broglia) We also revisit the classical results concerning (Hilbert's) Nullstellensatz in the framework of (complex) Stein spaces.

An invitation to Geometry and Topology via G_2

We are organising a Geometry-related LMS-CMI Research School this July at Imperial. Details follow. Please circulate the details to any PhD students you think may be interested in attending. NB 1. The research school is aimed broadly at Geometry PhD students not only those wishing to specialise in special or exceptional holonomy. 2. The deadline for application is May 12 (Monday next week). LMS-CMI Research School, “An invitation to Geometry and Topology via G_2”. Imperial College London, July 7-11, 2014. The aim of the research school will be to give a thorough introduction to G2 geometry aimed at beginning PhD students, starting from fundamental material and progressing through to recent breakthroughs and current research in which the UK plays a leading role. The school will also introduce participants to topics of broader interest in algebra (e.g. representation theory), analysis (e.g. elliptic regularity), geometry (e.g. holonomy) and topology (e.g. characteristic classes). The course will also indicate some connections beyond mathematics to contemporary theoretical physics (M-theory) The main lecturers are: Robert Bryant (Duke) Jason Lotay (UCL) Johannes Nordström (Bath) The lecture courses will be supported by tutorial sessions. Additional lectures will be given by Bobby Acharya (King’s College London), Mark Haskins (Imperial) and Nigel Hitchin (Oxford). The closing date for applications is Monday May 12th 2014. Numbers will be limited and those interested are advised to make an early application. Leone Slavich (Università di Firenze) Abstract: Una n-varietà iperbolica si dice geometricamente bordante se è il bordo totalmente geodetico di una n+1-varietà iperbolica. Costruirò un esempio non compatto di 3-varietà iperbolica geometricamente bordante e ne esibirò una presentazione come complementare di link in S^3.
