Speaker: Federico Pasqualotto (Berkeley) Title: The singularity formation problem in incompressible fluid dynamics Abstract: We will introduce the singularity formation problem in incompressible fluid dynamics, with a focus on the Navier—Stokes equations and the 3d incompressible Euler equations. We will discuss model problems of increasing complexity, and we will comment on recent results, with an emphasis on the use of computer-assisted techniques. We will finally provide an overview of the first swirl-driven singularity formation result for the 3d incompressible Euler equations in the whole space, obtained in collaboration with Tarek Elgindi (Duke University).
