2 Year Post-doctoral research position in Continuum and multiscale modelling of vascular tumour growth

We invite applications for a two-year postdoctoral research position, funded by the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Global Research Partnership (GRP) and based at the Oxford Centre for Collaborative Applied Mathematics (OCCAM), Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. This work will be supervised jointly by Profs Helen Byrne, David Gavaghan and Philip Maini (OCCAM) and Dr Steve McKeever (Oxford). This position is available from 1 January 2012 and the successful candidate must be in post by 31 March 2012.

In this project we will develop new multiscale and continuum models of vascular tumour growth which are faithful to our collaborators' data and then, for the first time, validate and parameterise the resulting models of vascular tumour growth. We will also aim to explore the links between the multiscale and continuum models by accounting for features such as vascular remodelling and, in so doing, identify conditions under which the continuum and multiscale models are applicable.

With a PhD awarded, or a Masters degree and PhD submitted, in mathematics or a related discipline, you will have expertise in mathematical modelling and numerical methods, the ability to work independently and to pursue research as part of an interdisciplinary team and a good publication record, judged by the stage of your career.
