Large Deviation, Gamma convergence and Entropy.

Abstract: In these two lectures I will expose an approach to large deviation theory from the point of view of the Laplace principle of asymptotic behavior of integrals. We describe also the interpretation of large deviations as the Gamma-convergence of relative entropies. The basic facts and the main examples of applications are presented in the setting of compact metric spaces. I will try to explain the basic phenomena like Gartner-Ellis theorem, the Sanov and Cramer theorems and Gibbsian conditioning which are the base of statistical mechanics.
