COLLOQUIO DI ANALISI 17:00-18:30, Aula Magna (Dip. Matematica) Onde solitarie, solitoni e vortici Vieri Benci (Universita' di Pisa)
abstract
Roughly speaking a solitary wave is a solution of a field equation whose energy travels as a localized packet and which preserves this localization in time. A soliton is a solitary wave which exhibits some strong form of stability so that it has a particle-like behavior. A vortex is a solitary wave with a nonvanishing angular momentum. The first part of this talk is an introduction to the study of solitary waves, soliton and vortices relative to the Nonlinear Wave Equation and to the Nonlinear Schroedinger Equation. In the last part of the talk we will present some new results relative to the dynamics of solitons when an external potential is present.
