It is well-known that a regular heptagon cannot be drawn using only a straightedge and compass. This is because the degree of any constructible number over $\mathbb{Q}$ must be a power of 2, while the seventh cyclotomic field has a degree of 6. With origami, however, it is possible to fold the regular heptagon. In this brief talk, we will explore how paper folding can be used to solve polynomials of degree 3 (and 5!), examining the theory of origami from both a theoretical and practical perspective.
