"Functions of finite energy in finite and infinite
dimensions"
Abstract: If the derivative of f is square
integrable must be also,at least up to a constant? If not why not? This
simple question will be used to introduce some concepts in geometric
analysis in finite and infinite dimensions. After some brief, introductory,
comments on L2 cohomology of finite dimensional Riemannian manifolds and the
role of spectral gaps, I will consider some infinite dimensional cases starting
with paths on Euclidean spaces and followed by manifolds of paths on Riemannian
manifolds. Here the basic Geometric Analysis is Stochastic Analysis and results
from the latter play a key role.
