Titolo: Omologia Multipath e poset dei multi-cammini.
Title: Multipath homology and the path poset.
Abstract:
The aim of this talk is to present some homology theories for graphs (and, in particular, multipath homology), describe their mutual relationship, and see how these theories are connected with other homology theories (i.e. homology theories for knots and algebras).
We start by describing some classical theories for graphs. Then, we will focus on the construction, due to Helme-Guizon and Rong, of chromatic homology. This theory categorifies the chromatic polynomial of graphs, and its construction is based on Khovanov homology. In particular, we will present a result due to J. Przytycki, which relates Khovanov homology, chromatic homology, and Hochschild homology. Afterwards, we will describe Turner and Wagner's approach to the "extension" of chromatic homology to oriented graphs while preserving an analogue of Przytycki's result. Finally, we will define multipath homology and compare it with Turner-Wagner homology.
In the last part of the talk, time permitting, we will give a topological description of the path poset, which is a key ingredient in the definition of Turner-Wagner and multipath homologies.
This talk is based on joint work with L. Caputi (University of Aberdeen) and S. Di Trani (Sapienza Università di Roma).

Totally geodesic immersions of hyperbolic manifolds
Abstract: The study of totally geodesic immersions between (complete,
finite-volume) hyperbolic manifolds is a classical problem in the field of
hyperbolic geometry. There are two main approaches to this problem which
often interplay with each other:
1) Given a hyperbolic manifold N, determine the hyperbolic manifolds in
which N can be immersed geodesically;
2) Given a hyperbolic manifold, determine its totally geodesic immersed
submanifolds.
We will show how it is possible to build totally geodesic immersed
submanifolds in a hyperbolic manifold M using finite subgroups in the
commensurator of M. We will call the subspaces arising from this
construction "finite centralise subspaces" (or fc-subspaces) and use them
to provide an arithmeticity criterion in terms of their
finiteness/non-finiteness. In the case of arithmetic hyperbolic manifolds
we will show how to characterise all totally geodesic immersions through
the analysis of certain algebraic invariants: the adjoint trace field
(which is an algebraic number field) and the ambient group (an algebraic
group defined over the adjoint trace field).

It is partly intended to celebrate the mathematical contributions of Tomasz Mrowka. The conference will be preceded by a summer school for graduate students (the week before).

A bit of practical information (some of which is still preliminary):
WHO CAN APPLY? The application process is open, but due to space limitations at ICTP, we may have to be selective. Prospective participants will be informed of the outcome of the application as soon as possible.
HOW ABOUT COVID AND REMOTE PARTICIPATION? We encourage in-person participation, but in view of current uncertainties, the conference is designed as hybrid, and allows remote participation if necessary. Note that remote participants have to go through the same application process as in-person ones.
WHERE WILL PARTICIPANTS STAY? ICTP has on-campus housingthat participants can book at a reasonable price. Alternatively, ICTP will be able to assist with finding a hotel in the town of Trieste.
HOW ABOUT REIMBURSEMENT FOR HOUSING AND TRAVEL? Unfortunately, for most conference participants, we will NOT beable to provide any kind of reimbursement. One exception are participants from developing countries, for whom ICTP will contribute a limited amount of resources (this is part of ICTP's mission of encouraging the worldwide development of mathematics and physics). The other exception are graduate students staying on from the summer school, where we have a small amount of funding for travel expenses from the Clay Mathematics Institute. We have a pending application for funding from the National Science Foundation, which if approved would provide additional resources for a small number of US-based graduate students and postdocs.)

Dear colleagues,
We are organising a summer school on Alexander polynomials at the
University of Nantes (May 30-June 3, 2022). There will be two
mini-courses, one by Fathi Ben-Aribi (Université Catholique de Louvain)
on twisted Alexander polynomials in the context of classical knot theory
and one by Vincent Florens (Université de Pau) on Alexander polynomials
and complex projective curves. We expect to have some contributed talks
by young participants.
The schedule will be pretty light, in order to allow the participants
ample time to work on the material covered in the lectures. Some
familiarity with knot theory and with (very basic) complex projective
geometry will be assumed.
