Matematica) Kyle Larson (Austin, Texas) Torus surgery in the 4-sphere I will introduce the operation of torus surgery in the 4-sphere, and describe some recent results concerning which 4-manifolds can be produced in this way and the uniqueness of such descriptions. As a motivation I will discuss analogous results and problems about Dehn surgery on knots in the 3-sphere. I will also discuss some applications to embedding 3-manifolds into 4-manifolds.

Matematica) Marco Golla Twisting (Heegaard Floer) correction terms Correction terms in Heegaard Floer homology are rational numbers associated to rational homology spheres, introduced by Ozsváth and Szabó (inspired by the work of Frøyshov in Seiberg-Witten theory). These invariants have been used to study the topology of 4-manifolds whose boundary is a rational homology sphere. We use twisted coefficients to generalise this construction to arbitrary 3-manifolds, and give some applications. This is joint work with Stefan Behrens.

Ciao, Rita =============================== Giovedi' 18 giugno, sala seminari: ORE 10: Antonella Grassi (University of Pennsylvania): "Fibrazioni ellittiche di varieta' di Calabi-Yau 3folds, algebre di Lie e rappresentazioni collegate". ABSTRACT: i punti doppi razionali, (singolarita' di Klein o du Val) sono classificati da diagrammi di Dynkin di certe algebre di Lie; queste sono anche le singolarita' dei modelli di Weierstrass di superfici ellittiche. La struttura di algebra di Lie si manifesta, con certe rappresentazioni, nel caso di varieta' di Calabi-Yau 3folds $X$ ellittiche, dimostriamo che questo appaia in una formula per $\chi_{top}(X)$ ed esporremo in termini matematici alcune congetture proveniente dalle "anomalies cancellation in physics". [Basato su lavori in collaborazione con D. Morrison; J.Halverson e J. Shaneson] ORE 11.30: Julius Shaneson (University of Pennsylvania) "Topological String Junctions" A topological foundation/interpretation is provided for the the algebraic notion of string junctions. This new approach permits the analysis of elliptic fibrations using deformations rather than resolutions. As a result we obtain the associated gauge algebras, their representation, Dynkin diagrams, root systems, etc., first for complex codimension one singularities and then for higher codimension strata in the singular set, for example corresponding to the G_2 gauge group or for the "III-IV-I" collision (with A. Matematica) Francesco Costantino (Università di Toulouse) Titolo: TQFT non semi-semplici Riassunto: Dopo aver rapidamente ricordato cos'è una TQFT e come costruirne alcune, ricorderemo alcuni degli aspetti salienti della teoria delle rappresentazioni del gruppo quantico U_q(sl_2) per poi spiegare come questi aspetti sono rispecchiati nella topologia. Discuteremo quindi la costruzione di invarianti "non semisemplici" di 3-varietà basati su questa teoria delle rappresentazioni e della costruzione delle TQFT associate a questi invarianti. Se il tempo lo permette discuteremo alcune proprietà di tali TQFT e le connetteremo ad ai recenti lavori di Bonahon e Wong. (Collaborazione con C. Blanchet, N. Geer e B. Patureau)
