Dear colleagues,
I would be grateful if you could forward the information below to any
potential candidate.
Thanks in advance and best wishes,
Jean-Marc
-------------------------------------
We currently have an opening for 3 postdoctoral positions in Geometry at
the University of Luxembourg (group of Jean-Marc Schlenker). All
positions are for 2 years, with a possible extension to a third year for
two positions, and possible extension to a maximum of 5 years (in total)
for the third position. Starting date is Sept 1, 2021 or later.
Two positions are funded by a project on convex domains and convex
surfaces in hyperbolic geometry. Preference will be given to candidates
showing strong promises with a track record in the areas of geometric
structures on low-dimensional manifolds, geometric analysis,
Teichm\"uller theory, or related fields.
The postdocs recruited will be expected to participate in the scientific
activities of the mathematics department, as well as have a limited
contribution to its teaching missions (max 70h/year). They will benefit
from an excellent atmosphere in a dynamic department, funding for
travel, invitations or scientific activities, as well as a very
competitive salary.
Applications received by February 15, 2021 will be given preference.
Please apply online: http://emea3.mrted.ly/2l92p

Cari tutti,
Programma:
Giulia Sacca’ (New York): Birational Geometry of the Intermediate
Jacobian fibration
Link al seminario: https://meet.google.com/mgr-ybkg-brj
Abstract: I will start by presenting some applications of the minimal
model program to the construction of symplectic compactifications of
certain Lagrangian fibrations (integrable systems) of geometric origin.
One such case is that of the intermediate Jacobian fibration associated
to a cubic fourfold (Donagi-Markman integrable system). In the second
part of the talk, I will discuss aspects of the birational geometry of
this
fibration (e.g. the Mordell-Weil group).

canale Teams:
https://teams.microsoft.com/l/channel/19%3a540f44c5cea54ac09f8bb6d267f8cdaf…
A presto,

Cusps of Hyperbolic 4-Manifolds and Rational Homology Spheres
<http://www.dm.unipi.it/webnew/it/seminari/cusps-hyperbolic-4-manifolds-and-…>
Leonardo Ferrari
By Margulis’ Lemma, a finite-volume complete hyperbolic n-manifold has a
finite number of ends called cusps, each of which is diffeomorphic to the
product of a flat (n-1)-manifold with the half-line. These flat manifolds
are called cusp sections, and their possible configurations on hyperbolic
manifolds is still very little understood. For instance, it was still not
known if a hyperbolic manifold could have only rational homology spheres as
cusp sections. In the 4-dimensional case, of the 10 flat 3-manifold
diffeomorphism types, only the Hansche-Wendt manifold is a rational
homology sphere, and it was conjectured if there existed an orientable
hyperbolic 4-manifold such that all the cusps sections were such a
manifold. We will introduce combinatorial tools to build manifolds by
gluing copies of polytopes - a technique called colouring - and
computational tools to tree-search for manifolds, thus providing an example
that answers affirmatively this conjecture.
Joint work with Leone Slavich and Sasha Kolpakov.

Dear Colleagues,
The department of Mathematics at the /Université libre de Bruxelles /is
opening a tenure-track type position in Differential Geometry, starting
October 2021.
The deadline to send applications is December 1st, 2020.
The detailed description of the position can be found in the attached
file or at the address:
https://www2.ulb.ac.be/ulb/vacances/academiques/index-7.html
Please forward to anyone who might be interested.
Best regards,
Mélanie Bertelson
Caro Riccardo,
Ci proviamo.
Microsoft Stream riservato a unipi. Mercoledì mattina vado prima a vedere
cosa riesco a fare, chiunque abbia dimestichezza e vuole dare una mano mi
faccia sapere.
Ciao,
Bruno
