Buongiorno a tutti, Vorremmo segnalarvi che venerdì prossimo (14 Febbraio) in aula 2BC30 (Torre Archimede, Università di Padova) ci sarà un seminario per il ciclo di seminari in Probabilità e Finanza di: Stefan Ankirchner (Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena) Title: Diffusion control ranking games Date: February 14, 2025, at 11:00, room 2BC30 Abstract: The topic of the talk are stochastic differential games where each player can control the diffusion intensity of an individual state process, and the players whose final states are among the highest receive a fixed prize. We take a closer look at the 2 player case and the mean field version of the game. The talk is based on several papers written jointly with Nabil Kazi-Tani, Julian Wendt and Chao Zhou. Dear all, I have an open PhD position in my group at Université Laval (Quebec CIty, Canada) on the topic "Statistical learning methods for functional data". Requirements and Conditions - Background in statistics, machine learning, data science, or similar - Programming experience (R, Python, Matlab or similar) - Advanced level of English - Intermediate level of French (or willingness to reach an intermediate level before the beginning of the PhD program) Funding: at least 25 000 CAD/year for 4 years (including admission and success support scholarships from the Faculty, as well as supervisor scholarships). However, much of this attention and success has been focused on the discrete-time setting. RL for continuous-time systems, despite its natural applicability to a wide range of control tasks in physical systems, remains largely unexplored with limited progress. In particular, characterizing the sample efficiency of continuous-time RL algorithms continues to be a challenging and open problem. In this talk, we introduce a principled framework for systematically analyzing regret bounds for continuous-time RL algorithms in episodic model-based settings. Our framework decomposes the regret analysis into two fundamental components: the finite-sample accuracy of model estimation and the performance gap of a greedy policy derived from the estimated models. The finite-sample accuracy is analyzed using filtering theory and concentration inequalities for correlated observations, while the performance gap is quantified by leveraging the robustness of the control problem. The candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Econometrics, or Economics or equivalent, from an Italian or foreign university. Dear All, we are pleased to announce that the XLIX edition of the AMASES Conference will take place in Florence at the Dipartimento di Scienze per l'Economia e l'Impresa (DISEI) of the University of Florence from September 11th to September 13th 2025. As in the AMASES (Associazione per la Matematica Applicata alle Scienze Economiche e Sociali) established tradition, the purpose of the meeting is to stimulate discussion among scholars and practitioners, from Italy and all around the world, on different aspects of Mathematics applied to Economic and Social Sciences. The scientific program consists of plenary talks and presentations in parallel sessions of contributed papers on Actuarial Mathematics, Decision Theory, Dynamic Models, Financial Mathematics, Game Theory, Mathematical Economics, Numerical Methods, Optimization. Si avvisa che in data 10-02-2025, alle ore 14:30 presso il Politecnico di Milano, Edificio 16B (Via Bonardi 9), in Aula 16B.0.1 (piano terra), nell’ambito delle attività del MOX, si svolgerà il seguente seminario: Raphael Huser, KAUST - King Abdullah University of Science and Technology Titolo: Neural Inference Methods for Spatial Extremes in High Dimensions Abstract: Neural Bayes estimators are neural networks that approximate Bayes estimators. They are thus likelihood-free, extremely fast to evaluate, and amenable to rapid uncertainty quantification, while also (approximately) inheriting the appealing large-sample properties of Bayes estimators. Neural Bayes estimators are therefore ideal to use with spatial extremes models observed in high dimensions, where estimation is often a computational bottleneck. In this seminar, I will summarize our research progress in that area and explain how, for any spatial model that can be simulated from, a single neural Bayes estimator can be trained to make fast inference with new data that involve varying sample sizes, varying spatial configurations of observed locations, and varying censoring levels used in peaks-over-threshold modeling. This methodology will be illustrated by application to sea surface temperature extremes over the Red Sea, and air pollution extremes over the whole Arabic peninsula. Joint work with Jordan Richards, Matthew Sainsbury-Dale, and Andrew Zammit-Mangion. This initiative is part of the “Ph.D. Lectures” activity of the project "Departments of Excellence 2023-2027" of the Department of Mathematics of Politecnico di Milano. This activity consists of seminars open to Ph.D. students, followed by meetings with the speaker to discuss and go into detail on the topics presented at the talk.
