Dear All,
we wish to remind that the deadline for paper submissions for the
fifth edition of the Energy Finance Italia Workshop - EFI5, which will be
held in Rome, University of Roma Tre, next February 10-11, 2020
http://host.uniroma3.it/eventi/efi5/
is rapidly approaching (Sunday, December 15).
We also want to advertise that, for the 3rd consecutive year, we
are applying for the Young Investigator Training Program of the ACRI
(Associazione Casse di Risparmio Italiane). If funded (as in the previous
2 editions), we will grant several 1-month positions to young researchers,
coming from outside Italy, to spend in one Italian research institution of
the network. In order to be eligible, the young researcher should
submit a presentation to the workshop, and choose at least three research
institutions to spend their grant at.
All those interested in such positions are kindly asked to submit
an extended abstract to the workshop (see
http://host.uniroma3.it/eventi/efi5/) and to contact me
(vargiolu(a)math.unipd.it), in order to have more precise details on the
official procedure.
Best regards
Tiziano

*Title:* Percolation in the Miller-Abrahams random resistor network
*Abstract: *The Miller-Abrahams random resistor network is used to study
electron transport in amorphous solids. This resistor network is given by
the complete random graph built on a marked homogeneous Poisson point
process on R^d and each edge {x,y} is associated to a filament with
conductance depending on the temperature, the distance between the points
x,y and their associated marks. In this talk we consider the subgraph
containing only edges with lower bounded conductances and, using the method
of randomized algorithms developed by Duminil-Copin et al. and the
renormalization argument proposed by Grimmett and Marstrand, we analyze the
connection probabilities and the left-right crossings in appropriate
regimes. These percolation properties are key ingredients for understanding
the asymptotic behavior at low temperature of the effective conductivity of
the Miller-Abrahams random resistor network.

*Speaker: *Gonzalo Panizo Garcia, IMCA, Lima, Perù
*Title:* A self-interacting random walk
*Abstract:* In 2011, Benjamini, Kozma and Schapira introduced a “balanced
excited random walk” in the 4-dimensional lattice. In 2016, a similar model
was studied by Peres, Schapira and Sousi in the 3-dimensional lattice. Here
we generalize their constructions in the d-dimensional lattice, in the
following way: if the walk visits a site for the first time, it makes a
simple random walk step in the first d_1 dimensions, whereas if the site
has been already visited, it makes a simple random walk step in the last
d_2 coordinates. Both BKS and PSS proved transience in the non-overlapping
case d=d_1+d_2, with d_1=d_2=4 (BKS) and d_1=1, d_2=3 (PSS). In this talk
some result for the overlapping case (d_1+d_2>d) will be presented, in
particular for d=4, d_1=2 and d_2=3.
(Joint work with D. Camarena and A. Ramirez).

Germany)
At the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of
Konstanz, there is an opening for a Tenure Track Professorship of
Stochastic Analysis (Tenure to W3). The successful candidate is expected to
have outstanding knowledge of stochastic analysis with connections to
partial differential equations and an excellent research record in a current
field that complements and strengthens research areas of the department, in
particular in stochastics and analysis.

I would like to announce the following talk that will be held on Thursday December 12th 2019, at 4:30 PM, in Aula Dal Passo of the Department of Mathematics, University of Rome Tor Vergata.
Speaker: Antonio Lerario (SISSA Trieste)
Title: Low-degree approximation of real singularities
Abstract: In this talk I will discuss some recent results that allow to
approximate a real singularity given by polynomial equations of degree
$d$ (e.g. the zero set of a polynomial, or the number of its critical points of a given Morse index) with a singularity which is diffeomorphic to the original one, but it is given by polynomials of degree $O(d^{1/2}log d)$. The approximation procedure is constructive (in the sense that one can read the approximating polynomial from a linear projection of the given one) and quantitative (in the sense that the approximating procedure will hold for a subset of the space of polynomials with measure increasing very quickly to full measure as the degree goes to infinity). This is based on a combination of joint works with P. Breiding, D. N. Diatta and H. Keneshlou.
