Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to the following Probability seminar that will take place on March 26 at 14.30 by the zoom platform. ________________________________________________________
Speaker: Luisa Andreis (Università di Firenze) Title: Phase transitions in sparse random graphs and coagulation processes
26 MARCH (Friday) - 14:30 zoom link: TBA available on the webpage https://www.math.unipd.it/~bianchi/seminari/ )
Abstract: Sparse inhomogeneous random graphs are a natural generalization of the well-known Erdos Rényi random graph, where vertices are characterized by a type and edges are independent but distributed according to the type of the vertices that they are connecting. These graphs undergo a phase transition in terms of the emergence of a giant component exactly as the classical Erdos Rényi model. In this talk we will present an alternative approach, via large deviations, to prove this phase transition. This allows a comparison with the gelation phase transition that characterizes coagulation processes and the phase transition of condensation type emerging in several systems of interacting components. This is an ongoing joint work with Wolfgang Koenig (WIAS and TU Berlin), Robert Patterson (WIAS) and Heide Langhammer (TU Berlin).

The Centre for Mathematical Sciences at Lund University seeks expressions of interest for a tenure track Associate Senior Lecturership (Swedish "biträdande universitetslektor", short BUL) at its Division for Mathematical Statistics.
We are looking for a promising young scholar of underrepresented gender with a research profile in a modern area of probability or statistics, including, but not limited to, applied probability theory (eg. towards MCMC or SMC), mathematical foundations of machine learning, causal inference and graphical models, penalized estimation and high dimensional data.
As Associate Senior Lecturer, you will complement the existing strengths of the Division by bringing in your unique research interests. During your 6 year qualification phase, you will have a mild teaching load, the possibility to co-supervise a PhD student and the possibility to attend courses from our teaching qualification and career development programme.
Lund University offers a competitive salary, attractive employer benefits and family-friendly working hours. Candidates must be less than 5 years after PhD to be eligible for this position, extensions are possible for periods of illness or caring responsibilities.
Interested? Then send your CV and research statement to bul-matstat@matstat.lu.se at your earliest convenience. We intend to invite interesting candidates to a virtual seminar talk and campus visit in the first half of April. More information about the hiring process will be given at this occasion.
