The chemotactic force field depends on the gradient of the TAF equation contains the first velocity moment (flux of blood vessels). We develop an existence and uniqueness theory for this system under natural assumptions on the initial data. Our theory combines the construction of fundamental solutions for associated linearized problems with comparison principles, sharp estimates of the velocity moments and compactness results for this type of kinetic and parabolic operators. -- ___________________________________________________________ Dr. Daniela Morale Dept. *Martedi' 14 Aprile 2015*, *ore 14:00* Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Istituto per le Applicazioni del Calcolo "Mauro Picone", Via dei Taurini 19, 00185 Roma Aula Riunioni (II piano) *CLAUDIO DURASTANTI * (Universita' di Roma Tor Vergata) terra' un seminario dal titolo *Normal approximations of linear and nonlinear statistics over the sphere.* ABSTRACT: Our aim is to study quantitative central limit theorems for some linear and nonlinear statistics based on wavelet coefficients evaluated on spherical Poisson processes of arbitrary dimension. This purpose is attained by merging the Stein-Malliavin approach (introduced in the seminal paper by Peccati, Solè, Taqqu and Utzet (2010)) and the properties of the needlets, wavelets over the q-dimensional sphere featuring strong concentration properties in the spatial and frequency domains, introduced in literature by Narcowich, Petrushev, Ward (2006). We will also discuss some examples: the thresholding and the study of variance in nonparametric density estimation framework and the so- called Sobolev tests for uniformity. **************************************************************** STATISTICS SEMINARS @ COLLEGIO CARLO ALBERTO **************************************************************** Venerdi' 10 Aprile 2015 alle ore 12:00, presso la Classroom 4 del Collegio Carlo Alberto, Moncalieri (TO), si terra' il seguente seminario: Frédéric LAVANCIER (Université de Nantes) DETERMINANTAL POINT PROCESS MODELS AND STATISTICAL INFERENCE Abstract: In this talk, I will demonstrate that Determinantal point processes (DPPs) provide useful models for the description of repulsive spatial point processes. Such data are usually modeled by Gibbs point processes, where the likelihood and moment expressions are intractable and simulations are time consuming. I will recall the definition of a DPP and review some of these appealing properties which make DPP models well suited for statistical analysis. In particular the ’most repulsive’ DPP will be characterized. Parametric models of DPPs will be introduced, where the likelihood and moment expressions can be easily evaluated and realizations can be quickly simulated. Some illustrations on real datasets will be presented. This work has been carried out in collaboration with Jesper Møller and Ege Rubak, Aalborg University. The study of the repulsiveness of DPPs is part of a joint work with Christophe Biscio, University of Nantes. Tutti gli interessati sono invitati a partecipare. Il giorno Giovedì 9 Aprile 2015, alle ore 14:30 presso la sede di Prometeia (sala grande, primo piano) via G.Marconi 43, Bologna Roy CERQUETI (Università di Macerata) terrà un seminario dal titolo "Markov chains approximation for resampling and bootstrapping" Abstract Markov chain theory is proving to be a powerful approach to resample highly nonlinear time series in the context of bootstrap procedures. In this talk a discussion on this theme is provided, with a special focus on the estimation of the memory of a Markov chain (i.e. its order) and on the identification of its relevant states. In particular, the choice of memory lags and the aggregation of irrelevant states are obtained by looking for regularities in the transition probabilities. At this aim, suitable optimization models are developed under an information theory perspective. More specifically, two competing objectives that a researcher will in general pursue when dealing with bootstrapping are considered: preserving the “structural” similarity between the original and the simulated series and assuring a controlled diversification of the latter. Several critical issues emerge and are analyzed, such as the remarkable complexity of the optimization problem due to the high cardinality of the admissible regions and the presence of interconnections between more than one resampled series in a multivariate framework.
