This recent development is concerning both the hardware and the software. From one hand, the total computational power has been enormously increased by codes that can be efficiently parallelized on GPGPU cards and/or in multi-core environments. On the other hand, in computer science new paradigms have shown their effectiveness: e.g., machine learning has been applied in several different contexts. The candidates are expected to be able to autonomously develop a high-level research with computational applications in at least one field of the following (non-exhaustive) list: dynamical systems, simulations in ODEs/PDEs, high-dimensional statistical analysis. The transfer of knowledge will be strongly encouraged also with exposure to activities of (active and passive) training.
