09 Feb '26

Dear colleagues, with this we would like to draw your attention to the following event: From May 4th-8th, 2026, we are organising the spring school “Mathematical Aspects of Plasma Physics and Turbulence”, to be held at Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa. It will comprise three lecture series on mathematical models and techniques arising in plasma physics, and aims to bring together mathematicians and physicists with complementary expertise in these areas. The event shall be targeted at researchers in particular at early-career level, working in the fields of kinetic equations, scaling limits, diffusion processes, and pattern formation in partial differential equations. They will be able to share their work via presentation of a talk or a poster. Limited funding is available for accommodation. We would kindly like to ask you to forward this information to interested students and colleagues. Further information on the event can be found on the webpage https://indico.sns.it/event/139/. [STAR Seminars] Wed Feb 11 - Rahma Yasmina Moulay Hachemi
by Leonardo Tarquini 05 Feb '26

05 Feb '26

Dear all, Join us for our upcoming talk in the STAR seminar<https://www.mn.uio.no/math/english/research/projects/storm/events/seminars/…> series on Wednesday, February 11th, from 11:00 to 12:00 (Oslo time). As always, the talk will take place in a hybrid format: participants in Oslo can attend the talk in Room 723 in Niels Henrik Abels hus, whereas the international audience will be able to follow the talk via Zoom<https://uio.zoom.us/j/61970286852>. The speaker is Rahma Yasmina Moulay Hachemi (University of Saida Dr. Moulay Tahar) with the talk: Title: The time-fractional stochastic heat equation driven by time-space white noise Abstract: We study the stochastic time-fractional stochastic heat equation: ∂α/∂tα Y(t, x) = λΔY (t, x) + σ W(t, x); (t, x) ∈ (0,∞) × Rd , (0.1), where d ∈ N = {1, 2, ...} and ∂α/∂tα is the Caputo derivative of order α ∈ (0, 2), and λ > 0 and σ ∈ R are given constants. We consider the equation in the sense of distribution, and we find an explicit expression for the S-valued solution Y (t, x), where S is the space of tempered distributions. Following the terminology of Y. Hu [1], we say that the solution is mild if Y (t, x) ∈ L2(P) for all t, x. It is well-known that in the classical case with α = 1, the solution is mild if and only if the space dimension d = 1. We prove that if α ∈ (1, 2) the solution is mild if d = 1 or d = 2. If α < 1 we prove that the solution is not mild for any d. [1] Hu, Yaozhong (2019): Some recent progress on stochastic heat equations. Acta Mathematica Scientia 39B(3); 874-914 We are looking forward to seeing you! Best regards, Giulia, Leonardo, Pere, and David

Seminario Georgios Athanasopoulos, Martedì 10 Febbraio, Sapienza Università di Roma
by Silvestri, Vittoria 05 Feb '26

05 Feb '26

Segnalo il seguente seminario, che si terrà Martedì prossimo in Sapienza. *Martedì 10 Febbraio, ore 14:00,* Sala di Consiglio, Dipartimento di Matematica, Sapienza Università di Roma *Speaker:* Georgios Athanasopoulos (Università Roma Tre) *Title:* Around the exact solutions of the 2D classical and 1D quantum Ising models. *Abstract:* I will review some recent developments about the 2D classical Ising model focusing on the method of Kac and Ward. In joint work with Daniel Ueltschi, we have extended this method to systems with negative coupling constants. As a consequence, we observe that the Cimasoni--Duminil-Copin--Li equation for the critical temperature, originally proved for general bi-periodic planar lattices with positive couplings, remains valid in a broader setting. Furthermore, I will discuss the possibility of extending this method to study the energy correlations for coupling constants of arbitrary sign. Finally, I will explain how this method can be used to rigorously compute the free energy of the 1D quantum Ising model. ******************************** Vittoria Silvestri Associate Professor Department of Mathematics University "La Sapienza" Piazzale Aldo Moro, 5 00185 - Rome ********************************
