The São Paulo school is divided into two parts and will happen in the weeks of August 2 to August 13, 2022, at Campinas University. In the first week there will be two introductory mini courses by Paulo Ruffino (Campinas) and Weijun Xu (Beijing) (stochastic calculus and rough paths) that lay the foundations for the courses of the second week and are directed towards students and researchers with little to no experience in the field. The courses of the second week are held by Lorenzo Zambotti (Sorbonne) and Martin Hairer (Imperial College London). Here, newly developed theories and their latest developments in the field of singular SPDEs and related areas will be taught. The program will be complemented with several plenary talks, invited talks, a poster session and a visit to the LNLS laboratories, where the only particle accelerator of Latin America is located. The school will give full financial support for around 100 students and young researchers (50 from Brazil and 50 from abroad). To ask for financial support the registration deadline is April 15, 2022. More information under www.ime.unicamp.br/spas2022. The EBP 20022 will coincide with the second week of the São Paulo School. As in previous years, the EBP will consist of two mini courses, plenary talks, contributed talks and poster sessions, all presented in a relaxed atmosphere. When the joint process {(Xn,Yn)} is a Markov chain of a given memory length, the plug-in estimator is shown to be asymptotically Gaussian and to converge at the optimal rate O(1/√n) under appropriate conditions; this is the first estimator that has been shown to achieve this rate. This is proved by showing that this estimator is equal to (a scalar multiple of) the classical likelihood ratio statistic for the above hypothesis test. We use it to study optimal government support in a lockdown that creates heterogeneous revenue losses to firms, which must borrow from banks. Firms’ increase in debt reduces their output due to moral hazard. Banks need safe collateral to raise funds. Without government support, aggregate risk constrains bank lending, amplifying output losses. Optimal support provides sufficient aggregate risk insurance, and is implemented with firm-specific transfers, fairly-priced guarantees on bank debt, and countercyclical firms’ taxation to achieve a fiscal surplus target. Competition not only imposes excessive disruption risk on existing assets and higher technological uncertainty, it also increases the wealth duration (the weighted-average maturity of the consumption stream). Because of hedging motives, a complementarity between wealth duration and technological uncertainty decreases systematic risk. If competition is sufficiently intense, a negative risk premium may arise. The model generates price paths consistent with boom-bust patterns and transient episodes of negative expected excess returns. PhD course "Analysis and control of stochastic models of biomolecular interactions"

Dear colleagues, I am happy to announce the following PhD course: The PhD course "Analysis and control of stochastic models of biomolecular interactions", taught by Dr. Ankit Gupta (Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering, ETH Zürich) will be hosted by Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy, in May 17-20, 2022. Attending in person is strongly recommended, but other options are available if necessary. To register and for any question, please write to daniele.cappelletti(a)polito.it. The course will deal with stochastic reaction network models, which are continuous time Markov chains commonly used to model biochemical dynamics within cells. Their theoretical and computational analysis is often quite challenging, and design of mathematical methods for their study is currently a very active research area. The goal of this course is to familiarize the students with a broad spectrum of these methods and illustrate them with several biological applications of current and lively interest in the research community. In particular, the following topics will be covered: 1. Finite State Projection methods 2. Moment Closure Schemes 3. Simulation approaches 4.
