Workshop Rough paths and related topics
by Stefania Ugolini 02 Nov '26

02 Nov '26

Workshop: Rough paths and related topics Tuesday, November 10, 2026 Milano, Room MM, Via Mangiagalli 37. Schedule: 14h-15h Lorenzo Zambotti (University of Sorbonne), Product of differential forms with distributional coefficients 15h-16h Gianmario Tessitore ( University of Milano Bicocca ), Sewing and Regularity gains for convolution integrals (joint work with Davide Addona and Luca Lorenzi). Lorenzo Zambotti Abstract: We discuss how Hairer’s reconstruction theorem allows to define a canonical product of differential forms with distributional coefficients, in a regularity regime which would be inaccessible for standard distributions. Gianmario Tessitore Abstract: We study convolution integrals driven by Hölder and rough signals in the presence of a smoothing semigroup. A semigroup-adapted sewing procedure allows us to quantify their gain in spatial regularity. We then extend the construction to singular integrands, which may blow up near the initial time, by means of weighted Hölder estimates. The resulting bounds are applied to mild Young equations with irregular initial data. We conclude with perspectives involving stochastic sewing and rough factorisation arguments. The workshop is organized by Francesco De Vecchi (Università di Pavia), Frédéric Patras (CNRS-Université Cote d’Azur) e Stefania Ugolini (Università di Milano) as the third scientific event of the Intensive Research Trimester titled: "Algebraic & Geometric Structures in Stochastic Calculus" of the Center for Training and Research, in the framework of the Excellence Project 2023-2027 of the Department of Mathematics " “F. Enriques”, Milano. https://agssc.unimi.it/

Seminar Celli at Tor Vergata, 09.11
by Michele Salvi 02 Nov '26

02 Nov '26

Dear all, On Monday, November 9, at 14h00 in Aula Dal Passo in the Math Department of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, RoMaDS (https://www.mat.uniroma2.it/~rds/events.php) will host Lucia Celli (University of Luxembourg) with the seminar “Quantitative CLTs for neural network at random initialization” Abstract: New quantitative bounds for the convergence of wide feed-forward neural networks to Gaussian processes are presented. For fully connected networks with i.i.d. weights and Gaussian biases, convergence at rate $O(n^{-1/2})$ is established in the Kolmogorov and Wasserstein distances when the network is evaluated at a single input, and in the convex distance when it is evaluated at multiple inputs, as the hidden-layer width $n \to \infty$. The bounds are explicit in the hyperparameters of the network and they give us the possibility to study the infinite depth-width limit. The main tool is Stein's method, following the approach of Chatterjee (2008) and subsequent extensions by Kasprzak, Peccati (2022) and Lachieze-Rey, Peccati (2017). The talk will focus on the proof of the Kolmogorov distance bound, where a key step consists in solving a Stein equation associated with the square of a Lipschitz function. We encourage in-person partecipation. Should you be unable to come, here is the link to the Teams streaming: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/31063852152728?p=gXh2dasNv6Msd83RWS The seminar is part of the Excellence Project MatMod@TOV.

SPASS seminar: Antonio Agresti and Theresa Lange - Tue 3 Nov at 14.00
by Lorenzo Marino 31 Oct '26

31 Oct '26

Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to invite you to the following two SPASS seminars https://sites.google.com/unipi.it/spass/seminars?authuser=0 <https://sites.google.com/unipi.it/spass/seminars?authuser=0%3E> (jointly organised by UniPi, SNS, UniFi and UniSi): Regularization by transport noise of 3D Navier-Stokes equations by Antonio Agresti (Università di Roma La Sapienza) and Transport noise in natural convection by Theresa Lange (Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences) Date and time: Tuesday, November 3rd at 14:00 CET Place: Aula Mancini, Palazzo della Carovana, Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa Abstract Agresti: Finite-time blow-up of smooth solutions to the forced 3D Navier-Stokes equations (NSEs) has recently been claimed. A long-standing conjecture in stochastic fluid dynamics suggests that physically motivated noise can prevent (potential) blow-up of solutions to the 3D NSEs. In this talk, I will illustrate how suitably chosen transport noise, motivated by models of turbulent fluid transport, yields global-in-time smooth solutions to the stochastic 3D NSEs with high probability. The arguments reveal new connections between homogenization techniques and scaling limits for SPDEs. Abstract Lange: In this talk, we will explore the role of transport noise in the context of natural convection: a fluid confined between two horizontally aligned plates will be heated from below and cooled from above. At a high temperature difference at the boundaries, the fluid will be turbulent and it is a longstanding challenge in physics and engineering to characterise the average heat flux (called the Nusselt number Nu) in terms of said temperature difference. In the mathematical literature various results in this direction have been obtained in the form of upper bounds on Nu aligned with physicists' predictions. In this talk, I will present a novel viewpoint on a treatment of this problem via stochastic parametrisation. SPASS seminar: Keefer Rowan
by Mario Maurelli 30 Oct '26

30 Oct '26

Dear colleagues, We would like to invite you to the following SPASS seminar, jointly organized by UniPi, SNS, UniFi (abstract below): *Effective Lagrangian regularity and the uniqueness threshold for random Hölder velocity fields* by *Keefer Rowan* (EPFL Lausanne) The seminar will take place on *Tuesday, 10.11.2026* at *14:00 CET* in Aula Seminari, Dipartimento di Matematica, UNIPI and streamed online at this link <https://meet.google.com/wfg-cyqy-ewv>. Abstract: We discuss the behavior of the ordinary differential equations, flow maps, and continuity equations associated to autonomous random velocity fields that admit a natural multiscale finite range decomposition. The velocity fields we consider are only Hölder regular in space, and thus the associated ODE and continuity equation are not a priori well-posed. However, above the critical threshold of 1/2, due to multiscale stochastic cancellations, we show well-posedness is almost surely restored away from the zero level set of the velocity field. This threshold marks a genuine transition, as demonstrated by examples lying below the threshold that exhibit robust ill-posedness. Seminars in Statistics at Collegio Carlo Alberto - Chris Oates (Newcastle University)
by Matteo Giordano 30 Oct '26

SEMINARS IN STATISTICS @ COLLEGIO CARLO ALBERTO <https://www.carloalberto.org/events/category/seminars/seminars-in-statistic…> Venerdì 06/11/2026, presso il Collegio Carlo Alberto, in Piazza Arbarello 8, Torino, si terrà il seguente seminario: 12.00-13.00 Speaker: Chris Oates (Newcastle University) Title: Overcoming Model Misspecification in Bayesian Inference of Molecular Signalling Networks Abstract: Bayesian inference of molecular signalling networks usually relies on tractability of the marginal likelihood, enabling the set of possible networks to be efficiently explored. As such, linear models with independent errors and conjugate priors are routinely used. However, the dynamics of molecular signalling are nonlinear, and relevant confounders are often unobserved; failure to account for these complexities will almost certainly lead to over-confident inferences in the standard Bayesian framework. To confront this reality, we develop a post-Bayesian approach to inference of molecular signalling networks, guided by the principle that uncertainty should not vanish when the statistical model is misspecified, even in the infinite-data limit. Technically, we extend the predictively-oriented (PrO) posterior of McLatchie et al. (2025) to the setting of latent variable models, empirically investigating the properties of PrO posteriors in the challenging network inference context. Annuncio seminario 4/11: Luca Scarpa (Polimi) presso Milano-Bicocca
by Federica Masiero 29 Oct '26

29 Oct '26

Buongiorno vi segnalo il seguente seminario che Luca Scarpa (Politecnico di Milano) terrà presso l’Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca: *Data e ora:* Mercoledì 4 Novembre 2026, ore 15:00 *Luogo:* Aula U4-07 (Edificio U4, Piazza della Scienza 4, Milano) - Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca *Relatore:* Luca Scarpa (Politecnico di Milano) *Titolo:* Strong Feller property and irreducibility for stochastic PDEs with degenerate multiplicative noise *Abstract:* We establish strong Feller property and irreducibility for the transition semigroup associated to a class of nonlinear stochastic partial differential equations with multiplicative degenerate noise. As a by-product, we prove uniqueness of the invariant measure under very mild assumptions. The drift of the equation diverges exactly where the noise coefficient vanishes, resulting in a competition between the dissipative effects and the degeneracy of the noise. The main idea is to introduce a mathematical method to measure the accumulation of the solution towards the potential barriers, allowing to give rigorous meaning to the inverse of the noise operator even in the degenerate case. If the singularity of the drift and the degeneracy of the noise are suitably balanced, the dynamics are shown to stabilise for large times. From the mathematical point of view, the results provide a first generalisation of the classical work by Peszat & Zabczyk to the case of degenerate multiplicative diffusions. From the application perspective, the models cover interesting scenarios in physics, in the context of evolution of relative concentrations of mixtures, under the influence of thermodynamically-relevant potentials of Flory-Huggins type. Tutti gli interessati sono invitati a partecipare Cordialmente Federica Masiero -- Federica Masiero Dipartimento di Matematica e Applicazioni, Università di Milano Bicocca, Edificio U5 via Roberto Cozzi, 55, 20126 Milano
