Under a condition of stabilization for the random environment, our results establish existence and non-existence of subcritical regimes for the size of the cluster at the origin in terms of volume, diameter and number of points, also including their moments. The second part of the talk will address rates of convergence of the percolation probability for the Cox--Boolean model with fixed radii in a variety of asymptotic regimes. This is based on joint work with Christian Hirsch, András Tóbiás and Élie Cali.

Dear colleagues, we are happy to announce the following online talk: Speaker: *Valentina Cammarota* (Università di Roma La Sapienza) Title: *No repulsion between critical points for random plane wave and planar Gaussian random fields.* Abstract: Random plane wave is conjectured to be a universal model for high-energy eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator on generic compact Riemannian manifolds. This is known to be true on average. We discuss one of important geometric observable: critical points. We first compute one-point function for the critical point process, in particular we compute the expected number of critical points inside any open set. After that we compute the short-range asymptotic behaviour of the two-point function. This gives an unexpected result that the second factorial moment of the number of critical points in a small disc scales as the fourth power of the radius. We consider i.i.d. individuals with outcomes distributed according to the common probability distribution P. This original data is further randomized using a privacy mechanism into observations that the statistician is allowed to use in order to recover information about the distribution P. We will consider local differential privacy where each sample from the original data is privatized on the user’s local machine before its release. We build privatized samples and nonparametric estimation methods of nonlinear functionals of the probability density and prove their optimality. We show that for the estimation of a quadratic functional, interactive procedures that use previously released private data are faster than the non interactive ones. In both cases we show how to produce privacy mechanisms and estimators adaptive to (free of) the smoothness of the underlying density. We extend these results to non smooth functionals of the density. This is based on joint work with A. Rohde, L. Steinberger and Y. Mean-field games are games with a large number of identical small agents and symmetric interactions, which have found many applications in finance and economics. The linear programming approach is a relaxation technique, which allows to prove existence results under weak assumptions, and lends itself well to numerical implementation. It is a reading group with presentations, organized like a students' seminar. The target group are mathematicians of all academic age that are interested in an efficient introduction into a timely topic, with an own active participation. As opposed to workshops, people apply to participate. Incidentally, at the end of each Arbeitsgemeinschaft, the participants discuss topics for next year. For a long time, there has been just a single strand. Recently, Oberwolfach decided to widen to three strands, of which Martin Hairer, Peter Scholze, and Andreas Thom are in charge. The idea is that Martin's strand will be targeted towards more applied topics. Martin asked Felix and me to organize the first event on this topic. For instance, the walk's stationary distribution plays a prominent role in ranking systems and search algorithms. In this lecture, we present some recent progress in the analysis of random walks for a class of sparse directed networks generated by the so-called configuration model. We discuss various properties of the stationary distribution, including bulk behaviour and extremal values. We also consider the mixing time, that is the time needed to reach stationarity, and show that the walk typically displays a cutoff behaviour. Moreover, we discuss the asymptotic behaviour of the cover time, that is the expected time it takes the random walk to cover the whole network. Finally, we analyse the convergence to stationarity when the walk experiences regeneration events such as teleportation, as in the PageRank algorithm, or resampling of the underlying graph, as in a dynamically evolving network. ------------------------------------------------------------ Speaker: Vittoria Silvestri, Sapienza Title: Internal DLA on cylinder graphs: typical profiles and mixing. Abstract: Internal DLA is a mathematical model for the growth of a random cluster of particles according to the harmonic measure on the cluster boundary, seen from an internal point. Performing IDLA on cylinder graphs (i.e. graphs of the form GxZ) gives a Markov chain on the infinite space of particle configurations. We show that this chain is positive recurrent, and give a description of typical (i.e. stationary) configurations. The São Paulo school is divided into two parts and will happen in the weeks of August 2 to August 13, 2022, at Campinas University. In the first week there will be two introductory mini courses by Paulo Ruffino (Campinas) and Weijun Xu (Beijing) (stochastic calculus and rough paths) that lay the foundations for the courses of the second week and are directed towards students and researchers with little to no experience in the field. The courses of the second week are held by Lorenzo Zambotti (Sorbonne) and Martin Hairer (Imperial College London). Here, newly developed theories and their latest developments in the field of singular SPDEs and related areas will be taught. The program will be complemented with several plenary talks, invited talks, a poster session and a visit to the LNLS laboratories, where the only particle accelerator of Latin America is located. The school will give full financial support for around 100 students and young researchers (50 from Brazil and 50 from abroad). To ask for financial support the registration deadline is April 15, 2022. More information under www.ime.unicamp.br/spas2022. The EBP 20022 will coincide with the second week of the São Paulo School. We characterize how creative destruction affects risk, wealth, and asset prices. Competition not only imposes excessive disruption risk on existing assets and higher technological uncertainty, it also increases the wealth duration (the weighted-average maturity of the consumption stream). Because of hedging motives, a complementarity between wealth duration and technological uncertainty decreases systematic risk. If competition is sufficiently intense, a negative risk premium may arise. The model generates price paths consistent with boom-bust patterns and transient episodes of negative expected excess returns. Dear colleagues, I am happy to announce the following PhD course: The PhD course "Analysis and control of stochastic models of biomolecular interactions", taught by Dr. Ankit Gupta (Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering, ETH Zürich) will be hosted by Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy, in May 17-20, 2022. Attending in person is strongly recommended, but other options are available if necessary. To register and for any question, please write to daniele.cappelletti(a)polito.it. The course will deal with stochastic reaction network models, which are continuous time Markov chains commonly used to model biochemical dynamics within cells. Their theoretical and computational analysis is often quite challenging, and design of mathematical methods for their study is currently a very active research area. The goal of this course is to familiarize the students with a broad spectrum of these methods and illustrate them with several biological applications of current and lively interest in the research community. In particular, the following topics will be covered: 1. Finite State Projection methods 2. Moment Closure Schemes 3. Simulation approaches 4. Abstract: I will review recent results on a class of zero-sum game problems of mean-field type which extend the classical zero-sum Dynkin game problems. The results I will highlight include sufficient conditions under which such a game admits a value and a saddle point and a characterization of the value of the game in terms of a specific class of doubly reflected backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) of mean-field type. Moreover, a corresponding system of weakly interacting values of zero-sum Dynkin games is introduced and is shown to converge to the value of the zero-sum mean-field Dynkin game. Her research focuses on the development of innovative statistical methods and computational tools for geospatial data analysis and health surveillance, and the impact of her work has directly informed strategic policy in reducing disease burden in several countries. She has developed modeling architectures to understand the geographic and temporal patterns and identify targets for intervention of diseases such as malaria in Africa and cancer in Australia, and has worked on the development of a number of R packages for Bayesian risk modeling, detection of disease clusters, and risk assessment of travel-related spread of disease. // //* * *Abstract: *Spatially misaligned data are becoming increasingly common due to advances in both data collection and management in a wide range of scientific disciplines including the epidemiological, ecological and environmental fields. Here, we present a Bayesian geostatistical model for fusion of data obtained at point and areal resolutions. The model assumes that underlying all observations there is a spatially continuous variable that can be modeled using a Gaussian random field process. The model is fitted using the integrated nested Laplace approximation (INLA) and the stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) approaches. In the SPDE approach, a continuously indexed Gaussian random field is represented as a discretely indexed Gaussian Markov random field (GMRF) by means of a finite basis function defined on a triangulation of the region of study. In order to allow the combination of point and areal data, a new projection matrix for mapping the GMRF from the observation locations to the triangulation nodes is proposed which takes into account the types of data to be combined. The performance of the model is examined via simulation when it is fitted to point, areal, and point and areal data combined to predict several simulated surfaces that can appear in real settings. The model is also applied to predict the concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, USA, during 2011. The results show that the combination of point and areal data provides better predictions than if the method is applied to just one type of data, and this is consistent over both simulated and real data. José Figueroa Lopez Professor at the Washington University in St. Louis will give, both on site and on line, the SEMINAR Efficient Volatility Estimation for Lévy Processes with Jumps of Unbounded Variation Abstract. Statistical inference for stochastic processes based on high-frequency observations has been an active research area for more than a decade. One of the most well-known and widely studied problems is that of estimation of the quadratic variation of the continuous component of an Itô semimartingale with jumps. Several rate- and variance-efficient estimators have been proposed in the literature when the jump component is of bounded variation. However, to date, very few methods can deal with jumps of unbounded variation. By developing new high-order expansions of the truncated moments of a Lévy process, we construct a new rate- and variance-efficient estimator for a class of Lévy processes of unbounded variation, whose small jumps behave like those of a stable Lévy process with Blumenthal-Getoor index less than 8/5. The proposed method is based on a two-step debiasing procedure for the truncated realized quadratic variation of the process. Our Monte Carlo experiments indicate that the method outperforms other efficient alternatives in the literature in the setting covered by our theoretical framework. The question has been heavily studied in streaming and related models of computation, for over four decades. In this talk I will present some recent advances: - Lower bounds for approximating quantiles in the deterministic comparison model, for additive error, which show that the best known algorithm is in fact optimal - Upper bounds for relative error epsilon-approximations of quantiles, which improves over previous results and exceed the best known lower bounds by only an O(log(1/e)3/2) factor. Dear colleagues, We are happy to announce the following online talk: Speaker: Michele Coghi (Università d Trento) Title: Rough McKean-Vlasov dynamics for robust ensemble Kalman filtering. Abstract: Motivated by the challenge of incorporating data into misspecified and multiscale dynamical models, we study a McKean-Vlasov equation that contains the data stream as a common driving rough path. This setting allows us to prove well-posedness as well as continuity with respect to the driver in an appropriate rough-path topology. The latter property is key in our subsequent development of a robust data assimilation methodology: We establish propagation of chaos for the associated interacting particle system, which in turn is suggestive of a numerical scheme that can be viewed as an extension of the ensemble Kalman filter to a rough-path framework. Finally, we discuss a data-driven method based on subsampling to construct suitable rough path lifts and demonstrate the robustness of our scheme in a number of numerical experiments related to parameter estimation problems in multiscale contexts. The classical mathematical and statistical paradigms are often not applicable to current real-world problems, so there is a growing demand of new mathematical and statistical techniques to face such problems, able to shed some light on the often black-box techniques which are usually applied in such context and which characterise Deep Learning and, more generally, Artificial Intelligence. On the other side, since computers can not do everything by themselves, there is a growing need for new professional and scientific figures, the data scientists, that master a whole range of skills, ranging from data processing to sophisticated math tools and computational skills that are needed to extract the knowledge. The state of the art and future research perspectives in this framework will be highlighted and discussed in this webinar by the PhD students enrolled in the EU funded MSCA Project BIGMATH <http://itn-bigmath.unimi.it/> (grant n. 812912), starting from a set of challenging industrial case studies. The salary amounts to 46,000 Euros per year, including taxes and social charges, and considerable financial support to attend conferences and workshops will be granted. There are no teaching duties associated to the position. Abstract. Object of research are species sampling problems, whose importance has grown considerably in recent years driven by numerous applications in the broad area of biosciences, and also in machine learning, theoretical computer science and information theory.
