CU002), Sapienza University *Speaker: Refik Soyer* (George Washington University (US)) *Title: Latent Factor Multivariate Integer-Valued AR Processes* Abstract: We introduce a new class of multivariate integer-valued autoregressive (INAR) models based on the notion of a common random environment. Dependence among the components of the multivariate time series is induced via the common environment that follows a Markovian evolution. The proposed framework provides us with a dynamic multivariate generalization of the univariate INAR processes. We develop a Markov chain Monte Carlo method as well as a particle learning algorithm for Bayesian inference. We consider an extension of the model to handle zero inflated time-series data and illustrate the proposed class of models using actual multivariate count data and discuss their predictive performance. The Department of Statistics of the University of Bologna invites expressions of interest from qualified scholars for an Assistant Professor (RTT) position in Mathematical Methods for Economics, Finance, and Actuarial Sciences (SECS-S/06). The Department is a leader in research and teaching in Financial Mathematics, with its English-based Master’s programs in Quantitative Finance (since 2011) and Greening Energy Market and Finance (since 2022), nearly ten faculty members in Mathematical Methods for Economics, Finance, and Actuarial Sciences, and as many PhD students in this area. Interested candidates should submit their curriculum vitae and research statement to Prof. Silvia Romagnoli (silvia.romagnoli(a)unibo.it) by March 31^st , 2024. Note that this is a call for expression of interest only, not an advertisement for a vacancy. Zanco https://sites.google.com/unipi.it/spass <https://sites.google.com/unipi.it/spass> -------------------------------------------- Abstract: A decade and a half ago Chatterjee established the first rigorous connection between anomalous fluctuations (superconcentration) and a chaotic behaviour of the ground state in certain Gaussian disordered systems. We study the connection between chaos and concentration in spatial growth models, like first-passage percolation (FPP) and last-passage percolation (LPP), and we prove that they exhibit a chaotic behaviour. This extends previous work on the topic, and illustrates that this is a phenomenon that can be expected more widely. The notion of ‘chaos' refers to the sensitivity of the optimal path (geodesic) when exposed to a slight perturbation. In FPP on Z^d the geodesic is the time-minimizing path from the origin to a vertex v, while in LPP on the square lattice [0,n]^2 the geodesic is the weight-maximizing up-right path from (0,0) to (n,n). This talk is based on two joint works with Daniel Ahlberg and Mia Deijfen (Stockholm University).

The possibility to conduct inference on the resulting clusters remains nonetheless an intriguing yet quite intricate problem. To tackle this challenge, we propose a procedure that leverages on the connection between mean-shift clustering and stochastic gradient methods. This enables the definition of a sampling procedure, which can be used to construct confidence regions for the modes of a density. We investigate the asymptotic properties of the proposed method and evaluate its performances across different scenarios.
