Dear Colleagues, we invite you to submit contributions and organized sessions proposals to ECSO – CMS 2022 that will be held on 29-30 June - 1 July 2022, in Venice, at the Department of Economics - Ca’ Foscari University, in the San Giobbe Economics Campus. *Joint EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON STOCHASTIC OPTIMIZATION and COMPUTATIONAL MANAGEMENT SCIENCE Conference * *29-30 June - 1 July 2022, Venice, Italy* ECSO - CMS 2022 is jointly organized by the Department of Economics of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the CMS Journal and the EURO Working Group on Stochastic Optimization. ECSO 2022 is the 3rd edition of a stream of conferences organized by the EURO Working Group on Stochastic Optimization (EWGSO). The previous editions were held in Paris (2014) and Rome (2017). The scope of the conference is to bring together researchers and professionals in Stochastic Optimization and its applications in different fields spacing from economics and finance to supply chain, logistics, etc. CMS 2022 is the 17th edition of an annual meeting associated with the journal of Computational Management Science published by Springer. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for theoreticians and practitioners from academia and industry to exchange knowledge, ideas and results in a broad range of topics relevant to the theory and practice of computational methods in management science. This joint event will provide a forum for fruitful discussions and interactions among researchers and professionals from industry and institutional sectors on decision making under uncertainty in a complex world.The conference will be within the scopes of both CMS and EWGSO and, in particular, it will focus on models, methods and computational tools in stochastic, robust and distributionally robust optimization and on computational aspects of management science with emphasis on risk management, valuation problems, measurement applications. Proposals should have the following structure An organized session is on a single topic organized by the proponent with preferably four presentations (25 min). The organized session proposal should include details on the title, the proponent, and the speakers. The organizer may also be the chair and one of the speakers. A mini-symposium is a collection of (at least) two or more organized sessions on a single topic of substantial current interest and importance with the possibility of including a selected first presentation that can provide an overview of the topic area or put it in perspective. The mini-symposium proposal should include details on the title and a short description, proponent(s) and speakers. The deadline for submitting proposals is tentatively March 15th, 2022. We use it to study optimal government support in a lockdown that creates heterogeneous revenue losses to firms, which must borrow from banks. Firms’ increase in debt reduces their output due to moral hazard. Banks need safe collateral to raise funds. Without government support, aggregate risk constrains bank lending, amplifying output losses. Optimal support provides sufficient aggregate risk insurance, and is implemented with firm-specific transfers, fairly-priced guarantees on bank debt, and countercyclical firms’ taxation to achieve a fiscal surplus target. We characterize how creative destruction affects risk, wealth, and asset prices. Competition not only imposes excessive disruption risk on existing assets and higher technological uncertainty, it also increases the wealth duration (the weighted-average maturity of the consumption stream). Because of hedging motives, a complementarity between wealth duration and technological uncertainty decreases systematic risk. If competition is sufficiently intense, a negative risk premium may arise. The model generates price paths consistent with boom-bust patterns and transient episodes of negative expected excess returns. PhD course "Analysis and control of stochastic models of biomolecular interactions"

Dear colleagues, I am happy to announce the following PhD course: The PhD course "Analysis and control of stochastic models of biomolecular interactions", taught by Dr. Ankit Gupta (Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering, ETH Zürich) will be hosted by Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy, in May 17-20, 2022. Attending in person is strongly recommended, but other options are available if necessary. To register and for any question, please write to daniele.cappelletti(a)polito.it. The course will deal with stochastic reaction network models, which are continuous time Markov chains commonly used to model biochemical dynamics within cells. Their theoretical and computational analysis is often quite challenging, and design of mathematical methods for their study is currently a very active research area. The goal of this course is to familiarize the students with a broad spectrum of these methods and illustrate them with several biological applications of current and lively interest in the research community. In particular, the following topics will be covered: 1. Finite State Projection methods 2. Moment Closure Schemes 3. Simulation approaches 4. Tenure Track Assistant Professor (RTD-B) - Management and Finance The candidate must have excellent scientific production and solid experience in management science, business strategy (performance & business dynamics, dynamic capabilities) and/or quantitative finance. The position will strengthen one of the core missions of IMT Lucca in the analysis of business and market dynamics, also with the use of quantitative techniques. The ideal candidate is a scholar with a solid research background in management and/or finance at the international level, an excellent scientific production, with clear evidence of the results achieved so far and future perspectives. A specific experience in teaching at the postgraduate (master and doctorate) level will be considered as a plus. Candidates should be open to interdisciplinary collaborations. Tenure Track Assistant Professor (RTD-B) - Networks and Data Science The candidate must have an excellent scientific production and a solid experience in network science and/or data science. The position will strengthen one of the core missions of IMT Lucca in the multidisciplinary analysis of complex systems dynamics, via the application of data-driven methods (e.g. mathematical, physical, statistical or machine learning models) and/or network-based methods (e.g. agent-based models; percolation models; models for network inference from observed time series). The ideal candidate is a scholar with a solid research background in network science and/or data science at the international level,an excellent publication track record, with clear evidence of the results achieved so far and future perspectives. A specific experience in teaching at the post-graduate (master and doctorate) level will be considered as a plus. Candidates should be open to interdisciplinary collaborations in order to develop quantitative methods for data analysis and apply them to study problems of interest in the context of the natural, social, economic, financial sciences and engineering (e.g. the diffusion of epidemics, the propagation of signals and shocks, the formation of opinions). ------------------ The candidate will contribute to the teaching and research activities of the School. Dear colleagues, we are happy to announce the following online talk: Speaker: Boualem Djehiche (KTH, Stockholm) Title: Zero-sum mean-field Dynkin games. Abstract: I will review recent results on a class of zero-sum game problems of mean-field type which extend the classical zero-sum Dynkin game problems. The results I will highlight include sufficient conditions under which such a game admits a value and a saddle point and a characterization of the value of the game in terms of a specific class of doubly reflected backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) of mean-field type. Moreover, a corresponding system of weakly interacting values of zero-sum Dynkin games is introduced and is shown to converge to the value of the zero-sum mean-field Dynkin game.
