Colloqui della Classe di Scienze - Anno Accademico 2020/2021 Mercoledì 9 giugno 2021 ore 15:00 * Sylvia Serfaty * (New-York University, New York, USA) terrà un seminario dal titolo * “Systems of points with Coulomb interactions”* *abstract:* Large ensembles of points with Coulomb interactions arise in various settings of condensed matter physics, classical and quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, random matrices and even approximation theory, and they give rise to a variety of questions pertaining to analysis, Partial Differential Equations and probability. We will first review these motivations, then present the ''mean-field'' derivation of effective models and equations describing the system at the macroscopic scale. Colloqui della Classe di Scienze - Anno Accademico 2020/2021 Mercoledì 26 maggio 2021 ore 15:00 *Paola Caselli* ( Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik ) terrà un seminario dal titolo * “Our Astrochemical Origins”* *abstract:* All ingredients to make stars like our Sun and planets like our Earth are present in dense cold interstellar clouds. In these "stellar-system precursors" an active chemistry is already at work, as demonstrated by the presence of a rich variety of organic molecules in the gas phase and icy mantles encapsulating the sub-micrometer dust grains, the building blocks of planets. Colloqui della Classe di Scienze - Anno Accademico 2020/2021 Mercoledì 14 aprile 2021 ore 18:00 *Fernando Brandao* (California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA) terrà un seminario dal titolo “Building a Quantum Computer with Cat Codes ” *abstract:* A comprehensive architectural analysis for a fault-tolerant quantum computer based on cat codes concatenated with outer quantum error-correcting codes is presented. The construction significantly improves upon the fidelity of physical Toffoli gates at very low qubit cost. To achieve even lower overheads, a new magic-state distillation protocol for Toffoli states is devised. For the physical hardware, we propose a system of acoustic resonators coupled to superconducting circuits with a two-dimensional layout. We find that with around 1,000 superconducting circuit components, one could construct a fault-tolerant quantum computer that can run circuits which are intractable for classical supercomputers. SEMINARIO DI MATEMATICA *Giovedì 5 novembre 2020* ore 14:30 *Scuola Normale Superiore* Pisa *Laurent Vuillon* *(Università di Savoie Mont Blanc**)* Terrà un seminario dal titolo: *“Data science for protein structures and molecular dynamics”* *Abstract:* In this talk, we investigate the structure of proteins by considering the network associated with the adjacent amino acids according to a given cutoff. This network allows us to understand the protein structures and to study interfaces in polymers. We also use a dynamical version of these networks to study the allosteric paths in proteins. Indeed, elucidation of the allosteric pathways in proteins is a computational challenge that strongly benefits from combination of atomistic molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and coarse-grained analysis of the complex dynamical network of chemical interactions based on graph theory. Here, we introduce and assess the performances of the dynamical perturbation network analysis of allosteric pathways in a prototypical V-type allosteric enzyme. Dynamical atomic contacts obtained from MD simulations are used to weight the allosteric protein graph, which involves an extended network of contacts perturbed by the effector binding in the allosteric site. The outcome showed good agreement with previously reported theoretical and experimental extended studies and it provided recognition of new potential allosteric spots that can be exploited in future mutagenesis experiments. Moreover, we recover the value of its area as limit of p-capacities. Finally, we apply some of these results in order to obtain the sharp isoperimetric inequality on manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and Euclidean volume growth up to dimension 7, up to now known only in dimension 3. *!! *Announcement* On Wednesday 22, July, h. 14:00 (Pisa time) Philipp Forstner, TU Darmstadt will give a talk, invited by Scuola Normale Superiore: Title: SQG driven by Space-Time White Noise: An Approach using Regularity Structures Abstract: We show the existence of solutions of the 2D dissipative surface quasi-geostrophic equation driven by space-time white noise. Solutions will be obtained as a limit of solutions to regularised and renormalised equations. Therefore, we give a short introduction into the theory of regularity structures and show how the renormalisation procedure is done.
