"The Kato square root conjecture: past and recent developments"

Abstract.

We shall present the motivations that led to study this conjecture (now a theorem). It concerns the domain of definition of square roots of a class of elliptic operators.

This theorem and the method of proof has recently found some use for related boundary value problems and we shall present this development.
