Proper holomorphic self maps of smoothly bounded domains in C^n

abstract: A rather old conjecture states that any proper holomorphic mapping from a smoothly bounded domain in C^n to itself is a biholomorphism when n>2. This is known to be true for the unit ball and more generally for all strictly pseudoconvex domains. There are also positive results for some weakly pseudoconvex domains. We will survey the known results and present a new approach of the problem which exploits the relations between the dynamics of the mapping inside the domain and the dynamics of its extension on the bounary.
