shall give a lecture
On Isocategories and Tensor Functors (with some relevance to continuum mechanics)
Professor W. Noll is a scientist of fundamental importance in Continuum Mechanics in the second half of the 20th century. He taught us that the Continuum Mechanics can be simple, elegant, and free from traditional ambiguities. His article "The Non-Linear Field Theories of Mechanics" for S. Fuegge's Encyclopedia of Physics, coauthored by C. Truesdell, became classic, with four editions, one of which is Chinese. His work concerns a number of areas, starting from the general theory of interactions, constitutive equations, viscoelasticity, phase equilibria, and ending with the analysis of notions of space and time, to name a few. Professor Noll shall stay at the Department from 29 to 31 September
